1990-00-00 The Nostalgia Channel rebranded as Nostalgia Television.

1990-00-00 Channel 45 in Tijuana signed on.

1990-00-00 Channel 57 in Tijuana signed on.

1990-01-01 WWOR EMI Service replaced the WWOR-TV terrestial uplink on satellite with a special national feed for cable and satellite subscribers outside the New York City market. It carries most of the WWOR-TV programs cleared for national distribution, but replaced the syndicated shows subject to local blackout with programming that no TV stations claimed exclusivity in any market. For this website, we'll refer to the satellite version of WWOR-TV as the WWOR National Feed to differentiate from the local WWOR-TV broadcast version.

1990-01-01 WGN National Feed replaced the WGN-TV terrestial uplink on satellite with a special national feed for cable and satellite subscribers outside the Chicago city market. Due to SyndEx rules, the WGN National Feed, like WWOR EMI Feed, replaced many SyndEx affected shows with syndicated shows that no stations claimed exclusive rights to in any market. For this website, we'll refer to the satellite version of WGN-TV as the WGN National Feed to differentiate from the local WGN-TV broadcast version.

1990-06-01 Movietime was renamed E! Entertainment Television.

1990-07-00 The International Channel was launched.

1990-09-00 Christian Communications Network (San Diego) ended (possibly 1989).

1990-09-00 The Silent Network was rebranded as America's Disability Network

1990-09-15 The CBN Family Channel renamed The Family Channel.

1990-10-01 Channel 57 Ventura was launched.

1990-10-09 Hollywood Premiere Network was launched.

1990-11-20 Satcom C1 satellite was launched.

1990-13-00 Genesis Storytime signed off.

1990-13-00 National College Television signed off.

Cable History Highlights For This Year Range

In 1990, Cumulative Leakage Index (CLI) rules go into effect. These require cable operators to tighten maintenance standards and prevent possible interference to aeronautical users in the common frequency spectrum.

In 1990, Rainbow Programming launches SportsChannel Cincinnati [later becoming part of FOX Sports Net Ohio], serving Ohio, Kentucky and Indiana. SportsChannel Bay Area, later to become SportsChannel Pacific and then FOX Sports Net Bay Area, debuts with exclusive telecasts of the Oakland A's and San Francisco Giants.

In 1990, ESPN carries its first Major League Baseball game April 9 − Baltimore at Kansas City.
