1994-00-00 Q2 (QVC's upscale shopping channel) was launched

1994-00-00 Resort Sports Network (RSN Television) was launched. It was rebanded as Outside TV later.

1994-00-00 Prime Ticket changed its name to Prime Sports West, date and year unknown.

1994-01-01 Bloomberg Television was launched.

1994-04-01 Outdoor Channel was launched.

1994-01-07 Channel 30 San Bernadino relaunched.

1994-02-01 (Encore 8) Starz! (PAY) was launched. It was Encore's first official multiplexed channel that would be a competitor to HBO and Showtime. Encore used the Encore "n" branding in their main IDs of their multiplexed channels until 2002.

1994-04-14 Turner Classic Movies was launched.

1994-05-03 Classic Arts Showcase promoting the fine arts was launched.

1994-05-23 Channel 53 Riverside was launched.

1994-06-00 TV! Network was launched.

1994-06-01 fX Netowrk was launched.

1994-06-01 Trio was launched.

1994-07-01 MuchMusic USA was launched.

1994-07-01 (Encore 2) Love Stories (PAY) was launched. It was an Encore multiplexed theme channel.

1994-07-01 (Encore 4) Mystery (PAY) was launched. It was an Encore multiplexed theme channel.

1994-07-04 America's Talking signed on.

1994-07-11 PBS Kids was a programming bloack that served as a replacement for the PBS network's existing children's educaitonal programming block.

1994-09-01 IFC (The Independent Film Channel) was launched.

1994-09-12 (Encore 5) Action (PAY) was launched. It was an Encore multiplexed theme channel.

1994-09-12 (Encore 6) True Stories And Drama (PAY) was launched. It was an Encore multiplexed theme channel.

1994-09-12 (Encore 7) WAM! America's Youth Network (PAY) was launched. It was an Encore multiplexed theme channel.

1994-10-31 fXM (or Fox Movie Channel) was launched.

1994-12-00 Sega Channel was launched.

1994-12-01 GSN (Game Show Network) was launched.

1994-12-01 HGTV (Home and Garden Television) was launched.

1994-13-00 Americana Television Network signed off.

Cable History Highlights For This Year Range

In 1994, The Supreme Court remands the must-carry case back to the lower courts, while again stating that cable has certain First Amendment protection. (Turner Broadcasting v. FCC) Suits challenging provisions of the 1992 Cable Consumer Protection Act provisions move forward.

In 1994, Must-carry retransmission consent players launch FX, America's Talking, ESPN 2 and Home and Garden Television Network (HGTV).
